Some lowland waterways stay open year round. For the water I guide:

• Canterbury and West Coast regions: 1 October to the end of April.
• Canterbury high country lakes and rivers: open the first Saturday in November.
• Rainbow trout dominated waterways: open at the start of December.
• Canterbury salmon spawning streams: close at the end of February or March. Most other water stays open until the end of April.
