ADDITIONAL COSTS

FISHING LICENSE

Fishing licenses are available from Fish & Game New Zealand their fishing information page can be found here and you can buy a license from them online

In New Zealand a fishing licence is required to be purchased by all anglers (including children) fishing for acclimatised fish species including trout and salmon. This must be purchased prior to the fishing trip. Licences can be purchased directly through Fish & Game New Zealand using their online system. This licence allows the angler to fish for trout or salmon throughout New Zealand except for the Taupo and Rotorua regions (both found in the North Island).

If you are a visitor from overseas (non-resident) who want to experience a short fishing excursion, anywhere from a few hours to a full day, you can still purchase a One Day licence however for those planning more than a brief fishing trip,  you must buy a Non-Resident Licence (NRL).  If planning multi-day trips check with your guide if you need to apply for a Backcountry Endorsement for the regions you intend to fish. (You can add another region to your licence at any time.)

THESE BUTTONS ARE PROVIDED TO TAKE YOU DIRECTLY TO THE NZ OFFICIAL FISHING & GAME AUTHORITIES WEBSITE – THE PAGES WILL OPEN IN A SEPARATE TAB/WINDOW

TEA (“dinner” in kiwi)

Lunch, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks are provided as standard on trips. The food and beverage options provided for trips are coordinated with the client via e-mail after booking a fishing trip.

For those travelers who are less mobile or have limited time we can arrange for any specific food requests that they may have to be purchased from a bakery or supermarket and brought on the trip at the clients cost. If these items can be sourced locally then the only extra charge to the client would be the cost of the item (e.g no extra travel cost). Food preferences will be discussed when booking a trip.

When camping out overnight, meals and the menu will be discussed with the client so that everybody is happy with the food selection and quantities required. Your guide will prepare and cook all your meals if you would like them to. When cafe’s or restaurants are included as part of a trip you can expect an average main meal to cost approximately $20-35, with sides/salads of around $5-15 each.

ACCOMMODATION FOR MULTI-DAY TRIPS

Access to a variety of huts and accommodation to suit all budgets from tents to huts to motels is all available.

CAMPING

There is no extra fee for camping.  When an overnight camp out is selected by the client, all camping gear will be provided at no extra cost. This includes use of tents, gas cookers, tramping packs and clean, warm sleeping bags. A sleeping bag will be supplied with a clean washable cotton liner for hygiene purposes.

HUTS

Department of Conservation (D.O.C.) huts are located in some river valleys in both Canterbury and Westland. They cost from $7.50 per night for a basic hut to $34.00 per night for a serviced hut.
More homely private club huts with all the basic luxuries of home including gas showers and lighting are also available in some great fishing locations and cost from $70.00 per night for the hut.

LODGE (B&B)

A luxury game lodge located in an isolated river valley on the West Coast is available (conditional on existing bookings). This has great fishing located within metres of the front door of the lodge. The lodge can accommodate 4 persons and usually costs from $250 per night to hire the entire lodge. Complimentary fresh baked muffins and bread and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as full array of breakfast foods are provided with the lodge. This can be a great location for a non-fishing partner to relax and unwind in the beautiful South Island wilderness, going for walks, reading or watching satellite TV while the client and guide are out fishing.
